Theatre & Drama
Theatre schools are exclusively for children and young people. Drama groups are often mixed groups for adults and children. Island Savoyards specialise in Gilbert & Sullivan and other musical productions. South Wight Youth Theatre Group offer weekly classes for children up to 18yrs.
Carnival has a long history on the IOW and each town that holds a carnival has its own Carnival Association. Classes are held in carnival dance and workshops are sometimes held to create costumes. Contact the New Carnival Company or ShademakersUK for local professional support.
Spoken word and poetry groups offer supportive places to test out and perform your work. Try an Open Mic session or contact your local library for details of groups.
Local Volunteer Led Performance Events
Isle of Wight Music Dance & Drama Festival takes place each year and is an opportunity to compete with other local groups and individuals.
The IW Literary Festival offers annual opportunities to hear talks and take part in workshops.
The IW Fringe Festival takes place in August in Ventnor each year and offers artists the opportunity to perform in unusual locations.
